RIP Halloween in the Castro

Well, the city of San Francisco finally did it -- they killed Halloween.

Some of my favorite SF memories are from that crazy Halloween party. Getting in a fight with my little brother who had to storm home through the crazy crowd. Dressing up as my friend Bradford at his own Halloween party. Watching AC get mauled by total strangers and interviewed by the evening news in his Chewbacca costume.

What a bummer ...

Well I think the damn juvelnille diliquents killed it. I remember the last time I went in 2002 was the first time I felt my life was at risk. I was groped, I saw several drunken fights one with a knife and I heard gun shots ring out right in front of me. That's when I knew it was over!

Hmm... I have to be honest I'm of two minds about the whole thing. When I didn't live in the Castro, I *loved* Halloween. Then I moved there and hated it - the year with the stabbings and real chainsaw did it for me (which I think may have been 2002 come to think of it). RIP Halloween in the Castro.
